These compact serving boards are smooth to the touch and elegant on the table, with fully rounded edges and corners. A large, rounded opening at one end makes them easy to hold, serve from, and hang when not in use.

Available in quarter-sawn Walnut and quarter-sawn White Oak. Finished with a blend of food-safe mineral oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax.

What does “quarter-sawn” mean?

Quarter-sawn refers to the way a board is cut from a log, so the growth rings run roughly perpendicular to the board’s surface. This creates a straighter, more uniform grain and makes the wood more stable, durable, and resistant to warping – ideal for a serving board that sees regular use.

The story behind the product

The seed was planted a few years ago on a trip to Iceland. I was captivated by the basalt columns I saw all over the island – towering rock formations created millions of years ago as molten lava cooled and contracted into repeating hexagonal shapes.

They almost seemed man-made, yet they’re entirely shaped by nature.

Months later, while hiking at Coyote Wall in the Columbia River Gorge, I came across another striking basalt column formation and started thinking about how to bring the idea into woodworking
